| Mt.Kailash:
Mount Kailash lies
in the southwestern part of the Tibet Autonomous
Region of China.
At 6,714 m (22,027 ft), Mount Kailas is the highest peak in the Kailas
Range of the Himalayas . Mount Kailas is separated from the Great Himalayas
chain by a trough that is drained in the northwest by the Sutlej River
and in the southeast by the Yarlung Zangbo River (the extreme upper Brahmaputra
River ). Mapam Lake , lying just south of Mount Kailas at 4,557 m (14,950
ft), is one of the world's highest lakes.
Mount
Kailas , which has religious significance for both Hindus and Tibetan
Buddhists, is an important pilgrimage site. For Hindus, the peak is the
home of the god Shiva, while Tibetan Buddhists equate the mountain with
Mount Sumeru , the cosmic center of the universe
MANSAROVER:
The great lake Mansarover is situated in the south-west corner of
Tibet
and in the north-west of Nepal . It beyond high Himalayas which borders
Nepal and China . Tibetan plateau in itself is unique in its geographic
make up with its fauna and flora and mythical setup of ecosystem. The
lake is 20 kms from Mt.Kailash and is one of the most beautiful and sacred
lake in Asia . It can be circumambulated in four or five days. It is often
a gem like cobalt blue color but during storm, it can turn into a churning
black sometimes.
According
to Hindu and Buddisht epics, the four great rivers of the Indian sub-continent,
the Indus , Ganga , Sutlej and Brahamaputra actually arise from Mansarover.
In reality, only the Sutlej originates from the lake. Mansarover has been
circumambulated by the Indian pilgrims at least since being extolled in
the sacred Sanskrit literature called the Puranas around 1700 years ago.
Legends has that the mother of Buddha, Mayadevi was bathe at Mansarovar
by Gods before giving birth to her son
SAGA DAWA FESTIVAL
JUNE 04, 2012

The Saga Dawa festival is celebrated
on the 15th day of the 4th Tibetan month and is one of the most important
religious festivals celebrated in Tibet. This auspicious day coincides
with three important events in Buddha's life namely his birth, nirvana
and parinirvana (death). Since the Saga Dawa festival falls on the holiest
month of the Tibetan calendar, it is believed that good deeds and prayers
are multiplied thousand fold during this event. So we can see everyone
immersed in prayers and trying to appease the gods.
During the fourth month of the
Tibetan calendar, many people refrain from killing animals and give out
alms to everyone who comes asking for it. There may not be overt celebrations
everywhere, but even then you can easily discern the festive spirit in
the air during the Saga Dawa festival. If you are in Tibet around that
time, don't forget to be a part of the huge crowd that visits the Dzongyab
Lukhang Park at the foot of Potala for a late afternoon picnic. In fact,
this has become some sort of a yearly ritual for the people in Tibet.
The Tarboche flagpole replacing
exercise is also an interesting event that takes place during the Saga
Dawa festival. As people from all parts of Tibet gather here for this
annual event, they bring small prayer flags to attach to the big flag
that comes up with the combined help of the onlookers that come to witness
the event. It is really fascinating to watch this event that is presided
over by a Lama from the nearby monastery.
The Saga Dawa festival is truly
a celebration that encompasses everyone into its fold casting aside all
barriers of nationality, religion or color. In fact, being a part of this
holy event is such a moving experience that you come back with a deep
sense of inner satisfaction that stays with you for a long time. To be
a part of the Saga Dawa festival, you just need to contact us and enjoy
a vacation that would be memorable in every sense.
